Join SPN at Mason

Science Policy Network (SPN) at Mason, is an initiative started by GMU graduate scientists that seek to increase the participation of graduate and undergraduate students in the deliberation of evidence-based public policies as well as policy for scientific and engineering institutions. We provide a platform for members to acquire the tools and resources to involve themselves in Science Policy, Advocacy, Diplomacy, Engagement, and Communication at different governmental scales and to add their diverse perspectives, knowledge, and expertise to drive positive policy decisions for all.

Please complete the following form to join SPN. As a member, you will have access to the following benefits:


  • Mentorship and professional development opportunities to further your science policy, advocacy, diplomacy, engagement, and communication skills.

  • Support and access to resources to lead projects and campaigns related to advancing your interests in SPN.

  • Eligibility to vote and participate in SPN meetings.


By becoming an active member of SPN you voluntarily agree to:


  • Receive updates about our events and meetings.

  • Engage in the organization of at least one (1) event a semester OR attend at least two (2) meetings a semester; OR, publish one (1) Sci-Pol piece under the SPN banner.

Types of membership available:

  1. Active: GMU graduate students and undergraduates who attend meetings/events and serve on the working groups/projects. All active members must be currently enrolled GMU students with a minimum academic achievement record defined as a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. 

  2. Associate: Members of the staff and faculty of George Mason University (GMU).

  3. Honorary: Alumni, community, and professional members whose research interests or profession are in accordance with the goals of the SPN at Mason.
