2022 Virginia Science Policy Boot Camp 

March 4-5, 2022

The Virginia Science Policy Bootcamp is an annual statewide event that was originated by graduate students at the University of Virginia and is meant to introduce students across the Commonwealth to science policy and how it can impact their research and future careers! This year, the 2-day virtual event was held Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th. The event contained six separate sessions between 10:45 am-4:30 pm EST Friday and 9 am-1:30 pm EST Saturday.  Informational sessions included interactive workshops hosted by national science policy professionals covering the basics of science policy and common communication strategies and tools used to communicate with policymakers. Additionally, opportunities to engage your own research into the science policy world were explored, from sessions covering active policy under consideration in specific fields, panelists describing their experiences with science policy fellowships, and local advocacy organizations actively recruiting current students!
